Integration Courses

In an integration course, you will learn about the German language and culture. After 600 hours of language classes, you will take the „German Test for Immigrants" (Deutsch-Test für Zuwanderer, DTZ), which corresponds to language level B1. Afterwards comes an Orientation in Germany class, which has 100 hours and ends with the test Life in Germany“ (Leben in Deutschland). In this class, you will learn about the German State and society, to help you get started with your life in Germany.

There are also other integration courses with a specific emphasis. For example, you will learn the Latin alphabet in a literacy course (Alphabetisierungskurs). A women’s integration course (Frauenintegrationskurs) is just for women. A youth integration course (Jugendintegrationskurs) is only for adolescents and young adults until the age of 25, and is combined with practical work experience.

You can find more information about integration courses at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees (Bundesamt für Migration und Flüchtlinge, BAMF).

The cost of an integration course may vary, and you should ask for advice before you register for a course. The employment agency (Agentur für Arbeit), the Jobcenter or the language school directly, can provide you with information regarding costs and registration. In order to find the most appropriate course, you will have to take a German language placement test.

A list of integrations courses currently being offered may be found via Kursnet or WebGIS.
