Certificate and Diploma Recognition
The most important question when talking about certificate and diploma recognition (school, professional, or diplomas) is:
What is your goal?
- A new apprenticeship?
- Beginning or continuing your studies at a university?
- Working in your field of work / study?
For each combination of certificate and goal, there is a separate procedure. You will find the most important tips and links here to help you get your certificates recognized as soon as possible.:
Goal: Apprenticeship with Recognition of School Certificates
The Regierungspräsidium in Stuttgart checks your foreign school certificates to see if they match the standards of a German school certificate. More Information about this process as well as forms and addresses can be found at: https://rp.baden-wuerttemberg.de/rps/Abt7/Seiten/Zeugnis.aspx
Goal: Studying or Applying to Study at a University
Would you like to start or continue studying in Germany? At www.anabin.kmk.org, you’ll find out if you can study in Germany with your school certificate. The academic institution (university or college) you would like to study at is responsible for recognizing your university entrance qualifications or your credits already accumulated.
Goal: Working in your field of work / study
If you would like to work in your field of work or study, there are a few questions that must be answered first: Is there an occupation in Germany that corresponds to your occupation (reference occupation, Referenzberuf)? Is your occupation a regulated profession (for example, a doctor) or a non-regulated profession (such as a baker)?
At www.anerkennung-in-deutschland.de/html/en you can find out for which professions you will need to get your professional qualifications recognized.
